Schönbrunn Castle - Summer Seat of the Habsburg Family

The City of Vienna

Beside its rich cultural heritage especially in music (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Strauss) or fine arts (Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele) Vienna for many centuries has been the center of the Habsburg Empire and is known as the city of the Vienna Congress. Vienna has turned from the role as "imperial capital" also into a meeting place for various international conferences and is seat of numerous International Organizations. Since 1979 Vienna is one of the "United Nations capitals" with about 4000 people from all over the world working for the Vienna based International Organizations such as IAEA, UNIDO or UNODC. In addition, Vienna serves as headquarter also for OSCE or OPEC. Vienna today combines the facades of the past, the life-style of the present and the space for reflections for the future. On Sunday, the day of arrival, the VIMUN Team can offer only a short guided sight seeting tour through Vienna. Participants who want to explore more of the beautiful City of Vienna they by themselves usually add one or two days of stay in Vienna.
