United Nations Office at Vienna

Since 1979 Vienna is one of the "United Nations capitals" with about 4000 people from all over the world working for the Vienna based International Organizations such as IAEA, UNIDO or UNODC. In addition, Vienna serves as headquarter also for OSCE or OPEC. As VIMUN 2019 entirely took place at the United Nations Office at Viennna, VIMUN again was perhaps the most authetical MUN world-wide. The UNYSA-AUSTRIA-AFA therefore, thanks the UN Conference Service and especially Ms. Maxine JACOBS for the support.

Of course participants were free in organizing their individual accomodation (private, hostels etc.). UNYSA-AUSTRIA-AFA recomended one accomodation possibility and arranged a special package at the Hotel Park Inn UNO-City Vienna. The hotel was located directly opposite the United Nations Office at Vienna and near Vienna's largest recreation area, the "Donauinsel" (with lots of water sport facilities).

VIMUN Gala Reception

Social Programme

Sunday: Welcome Dinner

On Sunday evening participants had the opportunity to visit the traditional Viennese "Heuriger Feuerwehr Wagner". "Heuriger" is the Viennese term for the wine of the last grape harvest. And it is also the name of the places where this wine is served. "Let's go to heuriger" is an invitation that marks the beginning of a sociable evening full of fun. At the Dinner participants enjoyed Viennese cuisine.

Monday: Gala Reception

Monday evening, after the first day of negotiations in the committees, participants were hosted by the Mayor and the City of Vienna in the impressive Vienna City Hall. An official representative of the Viennese Government welcomed the partcipnats. They the possibility to shake a leg and they were invited to Viennese food and beverages.

Tuesday: Summer Night

After two intense evenings and before the party on Wednesday, there was the chance to enjoy a little bit a summer night in Vienna. At "Strandbar (= beach bar) Herrmann" with a beautiful sight next to the Wien River and the Danube Chanel, a very popuar place for young people who come there after office, delegates could simply sit together with thier new friends from VIMUN. They had some cocktails underneath "Urania", an observatory as well as an educational institute in the centre of Vienna. It was named after the Muse Urania (who represents astronomy) and fascinates through its glamorous Art Nouveau style of architecture.

Wednesday: Clubbing

On last day of the MUN, there was a big party. The "Vienna Gnadenlos" is a very popular and trendy event hotspot. It was a great evening!
